The Petroleum Geology of Offshore Lebanon

East Mediterranean Well Data Report (in collaboration with Spectrum)

or phone

ATenergy was the first company to approach the Lebanese government concerning exploration in the East Mediterranean. In 1999 we met with the Minister of Petroleum and, with Spectrum, negotiated the first contract to acquire 3,000km of 2D seismic in international waters. This was followed by the 2,000km survey in territorial waters in 2002.

During 2001 – 2002, ATenergy presented recommendations and guidelines for the Lebanese government to prepare for an exploration licensing round in the offshore area. We also organised a determination of the offshore international boundaries and supervised an exploration and prospectivity study of the offshore area utilising Spectrum's 2D seismic database.

Lebanon has come a long way since then and has held the first lisencing round and planning the second round in 2019, see

- The first licensing round was held in 2017 and resulted in a consortium led by Total with ENI and JSC Novatek being awarded blocks 4 and 9 in early 2018.

- Lebanon's first offshore exploration well is anticipated to be drilled later in 2019.

- A second round of licensing is planned for 2019.
